What was said to the Rose

Jan 26th, 2010

Coleman Barks performs a poem by Rumi, “What Was Said to the Rose” at one of the Mythic Journeys conferences. Musical accompaniment by Eugene Friesen and Arto Tuncboyaciyan.

What was said to the rose

What was said to the rose that made it open
was said to me here in my chest.

What was told the Cypress that made it strong
and straight, what was

whispered the jasmine so it is what it is, whatever made
sugarcane sweet, whatever

was said to the inhabitants of the town of Chigil in
Turkestan that makes them

so handsome, whatever lets the pomegranate flower blush
like a human face, that is

being said to me now. I blush. Whatever put eloquence in
language, that’s happening here.

The great warehouse doors open; I fill with gratitude,
chewing a piece of sugarcane,

in love with the one to whom every that belongs!

RUMI

Woa, I really like this so very much. I feel the joy through the alignment of yes. What other poets do you recommend?

forgiveness

Jan 23rd, 2010

Thank you to the universe.

I am seeing more clearly now. I have started to understand the question and the answer.

I understand the power of forgiveness. The pervasiveness of love. The abounding goodness and love.

The health wealth and love. How to feel this love and touch it to the whole of my experience.

I love you. So very much. I see you beyond the history of your life.

Beyond the appearance of your skin and culture. I love you. Beyond the endless complications and drama.

Beyond any measure of understanding and success. I love you.

I see you. The beauty fills. The breath moves.

Every man and woman is a star.
